The culture is transmitted from one generation to the next through language, rituals, institutions, art, among others. The significance of the analysis is establishing where the culture has any significant influence on the choice of gendered or gender-neutral toys. Further, the analysis will illustrate the influence of the gendered or gender-neutral toys in the socialization of children. Moreover, the analysis will be used to prove the set hypothesis of this research.
The main objectives of the research is to establish the influence of culture towards the choice of the gendered or gender-neutral toys. Also, the effects of gendered or gender-neutral toys on socialization of children will be analyzed. Furthermore, the research will seek to establish the overall effects of gendered or gender-neutral toys on the personality of individuals in their adulthood. Lastly, the research will be used to analyze different sociological theories on the effects of the gendered or gender-neutral toys on socialization and the influence of the culture in the choice of the toys. The innovation for the analysis is to evaluate the influence of the culture in the choice of the gendered or gender-neutral toys. Previously, most of the research focused on the choice of gendered or gender-neutral toys without including the cultural aspect in the research. The analysis will establish the relationship between culture and the choice of the gendered or gender-neutral toys and the effect of these toys to socialization of children.
The participants of the survey will includes undergraduates from a local university and employed individuals. The selection of the sample members will be done through purposive sampling to ensure only the most suitable individuals are selected. The common characteristics among the sample unit will be their exposure to the gendered or gender-neutral toys during their childhood. Similarly, their current majors in the university and their current jobs will be among the factors considered in the purposive sampling. The selected individuals will be taken through the aims and objectives of the research. Additionally, they will provided with adequate information regarding their rights of privacy and the possibility of publication of the research.
The stimuli for this research will be the exposure to the gendered or gender-neutral toys in their childhood. To accurately construct the stimuli, the sample member will be given a questionnaire with several systematic trigger questions. For instance, the respondent will be required to respond to a series of questions relating to effects of the gendered or gender-neutral toys based on their own life. Correspondingly, the questions will evaluate the influence of the culture in the choice of gendered or gender-neutral toys.
The independent variable for this research is the gendered or gender-neutral toys. The dependent variables are the varied effects of the gendered or gender-neutral toys on the sample members. The levels of the dependent variables range from high, moderate, to low. The high dependent variables will include individual whose current careers or majors correspond to the expected outcome of the effects of the gendered or gender-neutral toys. The low dependent variables will consist of individuals whose current careers or majors are slightly different from the expected outcome as a result of the influence of culture on the choice of gendered or gender-neutral toys.
The experiment will be carried out through distribution of close-ended questionnaires to the sample members. Also, observations will be made and recorded. The stimuli will be presented through a series of questions in the close-ended questionnaires.
The data being collected is analyzed by inspecting the respondent’s answers and using it to make concrete conclusions. For accuracy purposes, the irrelevant data will be excluded from the data being analyzed. In the analysis, all questionnaires with incomplete answers or with unreasonable answers will be omitted from the analysis. Additionally, there have been instances of data loss when the respondents fail to return the questionnaires. The results being analyzed indicate the accuracy of the predicted outcome as a majority of the respondents demonstrate the cultural influence in their choice of toys and also the effects of gendered and gender-neutral toys in their personality.
The results from the surveys being conducted have proven the hypothesis of the research. The results are showing a significant influence of culture on the choice of toys. The hypotheses for the study were, Culture has a significant influence on the choice of the gendered and gender-neutral toys, and the gendered or gender-neural toys affects the personality of individuals. The data being collected and analyzed is indicating the accuracy of the hypotheses and its compatibility with the predicted outcome. The conclusions being made through the analysis is similar to the other researchers conducted on the same field of sociology. Prior researches has illustrated the relationship between culture and the choice of gendered and gender-neutral toys. There are a number of problems being experienced in the experiment. The main problems include, shortage of manpower, high costs, uncooperative respondents, and human errors. One of the issues that have emerged while analyzing the data is the issue of the gendered and gender-neutral toys influencing the personality of individuals. This issue can be further researched by modifying the questionnaires to include questions directed to the evaluation of the personality of the respondents.
