Introduction

Assessment of cultural and communication styles are the means of knowledge of a personality and the peculiarities of its behavioral responses to external stimuli. In addition, a detailed analysis of these personal characteristics can optimize the behavior of a person within a society and improve the interaction with other people. The goal of this work is to identify both cultural communicational distinguishing features of a person and outline their symbiosis. In fact, cultural identity and communication styles cover a range of social and cultural customs of a communicator.

Assessment of Communication Style

The results of the analysis revealed my dominant considerate communication style (score 11) and its close connection with systematic profile (score 7). Fewer score was received for spirited (score 5) and direct styles (score 1) (What’s My Communication Style, 2015). Overall summary attested that the person combines rather considerate style during verbal communicative processes and non-verbal behavior. Considerate communicational style confirms that I prefer listening as well as personal and supportive language in verbal communication. My considerate style of communication found me like the person who does not make superfluous movements and fuss in plans. As a considerate communicator, I used to speak patiently, softly, slowly, and gently. The systematic component of ordinary communication style determines manifestations pf certain distance during interpersonal communication with other people, and creates constructive workspace around this person. In addition, particular manifestations of spirited and direct styles of behavior fill communication with enthusiasm and deliberate manner (What’s My Communication Style, 2015).

Obtained results were not surprise for me, because factual daily communication confirms demonstration of these proportions and communication behaviors along with considerate dominant communication style. The actions that I used to perform with gestures words in real life coincide with those inherent to considerate communicator. The way of listening and making statements and low level of discussion are practiced regularly.

As a considerate communicator, I am well-organized person thoughtfully accept all emergent and intended actions. The tempo of speech is relatively measured that is attested by the availability of the characteristics of considerate style. The accuracy of statements determines the selectivity of words of such communicator. As a person with considerate style of communication, my cultural characteristics are distinguished by slowness, rationality, moderate use of emotions, expression of individuality, male restrained temperament, and limited non-verbal communication among individuals (Giri, 2006). Communication with me should be performed by her/his rules and principles. Therefore, others appreciate the positive characteristics of the considerate communicator’s attempt to focus on the family values, try to speak accurately, and give more time for decision-making. Different leaders have different attitudes to such a subordinate, but the immediate supervisor has many similar features of considerate style (Madlock, 2008, p. 62). This coincidence facilitates communication.

Strengths of considerate communication style are used in collaboration with subordinates in working environment. My colleagues are aware that they could always accept good listening in return while communicating with me. They are free to ask me for advices, because they know that our relationships are built on trust and common values. As a considerate communicator, I am able to encourage and develop colleagues, care about their thoughts, and remain reliable supervisor. Collaboration with numerous people is accompanied by the ability to listen and support. Therefore, the combination of considerate and systematic styles helps find appropriate managerial decisions. Trouble spots of considerate communication style consist in the lack of expressiveness and assertiveness. I try to avoid conflicting situations, although they help to develop and choose new important ideas. Sometimes, my overemphasizing feelings disturb me from the work.  I always strive to choose comfortable conditions and avoid changes that lead to time waste and the lack of progressive and risky intentions.  Probably, due to the allowance of own needs to be lingered, I miss the focus on working objectives. I have a habit to tell others what they prefer to hear. This trouble spot hinders the truth. These behavioral traits of my communication style cause problems with the team rallying, although I enjoy being the part of a working team.

Assessment of Cultural Identity

My cultural characteristics as a considerate communicator are the environment, which enhances and represents the development of authentic traditions of communication. Personal features are changed under the influence of social and family traditions. Therefore, it is important to draw parallels with the cultural image of this person in further research of communication style. The combination of cultural identity and communication style will picture the entire behavioral and personal pattern.

The cultural identity of the person includes nationality, ethnicity, belonging to a particular social class, religion, generation, and locality (Graves-Brown, Jones, & Gamble, 2013, p. 102). This self-perception also forecasts my behavior and the typical way of cultural identification. I am a white American woman living in the Catholic Faith. I belong to the industrial middle class, with insignificant division of a nation. These characteristics attest that I have a typical culture identity (Peck, 2012). According to the rituals from the childhood of the person, the family members used to gather together to celebrate family and national holidays. That is the evidence of the established family traditions that form the cultural characteristics of a given social group. My living conditions were formed by enthusiastic, ethical, and constructive mood of inhabitants, rich historical heritage, and high moral principles of the family.

According to the reactions and customs that are typical for a systematic communicator, I clearly outline working and personal social circles (Shachaf, 2008, p. 132). The colleagues and supervision are perceived more formally and distantly. Communication with family and immediate friends is more informal (Bakir, Rose, & Shoham, 2006, p. 76). Overall, a systematic communicator determines cultural identity through the use of various techniques of communication with different social circles.

Non-verbal communication is used to the extent of formality of social circle and the peculiarities of workplace. Formal circumstances of the working conditions do not allow demonstrating many non-verbal signals while free emotional atmosphere within the friends’ and family circle may unconsciously let emotions and movements out. According to these facts of the personal life, my communication style is balanced and moderate (Ting-Toomey & Chung, 2012, p. 567; Nishimura, Nevgi, & Tella, 2008, p. 784).

During listening, I keep silence, thoughtfully perceive the information of an interlocutor, and do not interrupt. It is inherent for the communicator to involve and sympathize, and I take into consideration emotional condition of an interlocutor (Carbaugh, 2007, p. 168). Combination of considerate and systematic communication styles allows relying on numerous relevant sources to identify objective facts in order to avoid being deceived or inaccurate.

Focus

The focus was strongly and clearly determined and traced throughout the essay. The centered position of the character and type of behavior during communication with other individuals was also supported with reasoned and true arguments. Thesis statement was clearly defined according to the essay topic. The author’s position in thesis statement outlines the important conceptual lines of the work and forms the direction of the research. Focus of the thesis statement was limited to personal data only in accordance with the criteria of communicative style and cultural identity. All the arguments presented in particular provisions of the study in regard to only these aspects of personality were supported by respective true facts about the person.

Development

Development maintained in the essay is important for logical and coherent perception of the facts, a holistic view of the person, and the correct establishing of cause-and-effect relation. The study is based on real events, people, circles of communication, social relations, cultural peculiarities of the country and society, ethnic principles inherent to this social class, and communicational features of the person. The development bases the vision of communicative style and cultural identity on the theoretical background in order to better understand the common conceptual positions of the formed image of a systematic and direct communicator. Engaging daily personal circumstances, details, and life examples helps apply and verify the theoretical findings to the practical circumstances and environment. These steps allow supporting the thesis statement with practical arguments and causal effect with the theoretical provisions.

Rhetorical Structure

Rhetorical coherence of the essay’s text confirms the provision of ideas and information submission, and compliance with the thesis statement (Taboada & Mann, 2006). Each concrete sentence is compared to the previous statement that is formalized by the establishment of a set of relations between these two statements. Rhetorical relations attest the presence of differences and comparisons. In addition, terms, concessions, consistency, and other methods are used to manifest the rhetorical relations. Asymmetrical rhetorical structure includes a statement of the essay’s goal, the commonly accepted scientific knowledge, indication of the advantages and disadvantages of the communication style, identification of the compatibility with other types and cultural characteristics, etc. Such a structure allows supporting the thesis statement with the necessary elements for a sound manifestation of the person’s characteristics.

Paragraph Development

The paragraphs of the essay contain compatible content covering the author’s ideas and relevant information. Paragraph development is determined by the similarity and a focus on the specific description of the personal reactions, life circumstances and events, or the features of the mentioned communicative styles. Each paragraph has different methods of rhetorical structure, but their thematic division is high.

The maintenance and support of the thesis statement may be traced in each paragraph, which increases their development level. As the location of each aspect of the study should be limited by a separate section, the content structure of the essay corresponds to this principle and supports the presentation of the information in order to support the thesis statement.

Paragraph Transition

Transition of the paragraphs is distinguished by logical sequence. This characteristic of the work submits to the required headings and thematic issues of the essay. Each level of material shows the relationship with the previous paragraph and the thesis statement of the essay. Transitions are not determined by specific sentences, but they follow according to the depletion of the content.

Sentences Correctness and Style

The sentences and paragraphs of the work have appropriate style and proper arrangement and delivery. They are readable and grammatically correct. The structural components of the work reflect the exact content of the actual facts describing the personality. In particular, sentences are designed in a particular business style, which does not permit ambiguity and informality. All information units are deprived of lexical and grammatical errors.

The official style of the essay is emotionally deprived. The writing style is compact in order to achieve clarity and specificity. Unnecessary details are omitted. The essay’s style has a logical structure and contains long sentences, with logical and semantic relationships, typical listings, and direct order of words.

Conclusion

Predominance of the systematic type of communication is invoked by the person’s cultural characteristics and living environment. Relations with other people are structured according to the hierarchy and formality as a distance is inherent to the communicator. Availability of direct style supports precision, determination, and formality of the systematic character. As the person is not assigned to the top managerial positions, the spirited and considerate styles are not demonstrated clearly in the behavioral response during communication. Comparative characteristics of the strengths and weaknesses of the dominant style are supported with the guiding recommendations for better and optimal communication with the systematic-style communicator. The cultural identity of the person completely corresponds to the surrounding circumstances. The cultural attributes of the personality are manifested both in relation to the family values and the performance of official duties.

The qualitative characteristics of the essay are sustained at a high level, which is confirmed by an accurate reflection of the actual facts and internal structure of the work. The content and style of all sections support the thesis statement. Communicational and cultural peculiarities of the person reflect her social customs and behavior.
